TOURNAMENT Q & A

Q. What about this USOA WAIVER and FEE?
A. Yes, it is required before you play at any USOA sponsored tournament but only once for the entire calendar year.   So please get it done, directly and early, to cover your unlimited USOA sponsored tournaments for all of 2009, just go to:
http://www.usauwh.com/
We'll check a list at sign in and if yours is not already on file then you can sign waiver and pay $25 at tournament, but it's best to get it done ahead of time.

Q. How do I REGISTER for the tournament?
A. See the Santa Clarita Tournament tab for info, take care of your USOA fees/waiver directly, send in your tournament fee and registration info requested as shown, sooner the better to save yourself money.

Q. What is there TO DO in the area?
A. Plenty!   Within walking distance there is a Wal-Mart, restaurants and assorted shopping, and for lots of other activites for FRI and SUN please see the AREA ATTRACTIONS tab.

Q. WHERE TO STAY in the area, can I CAMP nearby, or what about staying with local players?
A. See Tournament Lodging tab for nearest hotels and Camping info, reach out to your L.A. Underwater Hockey friends for availability, or send them all a message with your info to see what other options:

Q. I'm a BEGINNER/ROOKIE and not sure if I'm up for this tournament and level of competition, should I give it a try?
A. ABSOLUTELY, Beginners/rookies and everyone is welcome and will have a great time.   The Potluck format means that teams are made according to mixed genders and skill levels so all should be fairly balanced.  And the big advantage of mixed teams is that you meet folks from other areas and with lots of different experiences, even from 'competing' clubs, but all in supportive, fun and development focused type games.

Q. What are the FACILITIES like?
A. Awesome!  This is a fairly new facility with lots of space for meets/tournaments, parking, locker rooms, deck space for relaxing, canopies, etc.   The POOL is 50 meters by 25 yards, flat 7.5' deep with beautiful crystal clear water so no worries about poor 'viz' halfway through the tournament.  We'll have two playing areas at each end of the pool meaning deck views from 3 sides and plenty of space between the games for warming up/down or just splashing and relaxing.

Q. Will my non-competing family/friends/spectators be able to get in the water?
A. Sure, no problem as lots of space between the two playing areas and they can even watch from in the water?

Q. What sort of GOALS and BOARDS setup?
A. We'll have real and legal goals and boards, custom designed by our own local engineering guru.

Q. How is the BOTTOM?   I've heard that L.A. players are incredibly tough, is it rough down there?
A. Actually, L.A. has a reputation of being fast and tough, so the bottom can't be too rough or we'd be slow, right?   It's definitely not as smooth as some of those sissy spoiled fast-moving slick tile pools, but also really not too bad and no worse than some other regional tournament pools so we're confident you can handle it and will enjoy.

Q. Need HELP setting up or taking down?
A. Yes, thanks for asking, we'd love to have you help us out and welcome all hands particularly for the take down portion at the end of Saturday.  We plan to setup as much as possible FRI Night and will welcome volunteers so please let us know if interested, just email to: chingkeedelapena@yahoo.com

Q. Will there be a BANQUET and/or PARTY?
A. YES, info to follow so check back soon.

Q. What about SPONSORSHIP/VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES for this tournament?
A. Of course, sponsors, supporters, and volunteers are all very welcome.   Please see our SPONSORS tab and be sure to support those who support underwater hockey.   Let us know if you have ideas or support to offer and if interested in volunteering to assist with running the tournament.   L.A. Underwater Hockey is part of the Greater Los Angeles Council of Divers and a 501c3 non-profit.
